Alaska Photos:
Fall/Early Winter 2004

We had some beautiful days of fall colors -
not quite like New England, but beautiful nonetheless.

We started to see snow in the surrounding hills and on
the mountains of the Alaska Range in late September.

We took a 45 mile trip up into the hills with a few neighbors
on 4 wheelers and even JJ enjoyed the experience
(although she emphatically claims she still detests the machines).

In October we observed our first real show of the aurora borealis.

And the temps kept right on dropping and the snow started falling...

JJ started work at the University and Paul kept working outside on cabin construction.

We continued to explore the trails in our backyard both on foot and
now on skis with a little help from Daisy and Logan.

We also had a few visitors stop by: a ptarmigan and a few spruce grouse.

Winter seems to be upon us now with a foot of snow on the ground,
temperatures staying below freezing, and daylight fading quickly.
