Alaska Photos:
Winter 2004/2005

As winter set in we would come to appreciate the
light of the full moon more than ever before.

Paul had the opportunity to travel over 1100 miles by dogsled
as he helped a neighbor train for the Iditarod.

JJ got out on new skis and gave skijoring a try, but just like with dogsledding...

everything can change in just the blink of an eye.

A local spring, our preferred source of water, kept running despite the 40 below temperatures.

Attending the start of the Iditarod Race brought the conclusion to all the training miles.

Paul traveled with the neighbors to Southcentral Alaska
to help Sandy and the team start the race.

The beautiful Talkeetna mountains with plenty of snow greeted us
as we drove through Broad Pass on a clear day.

Denali, the great one, provided the appropriate backdrop
to the real start of the race just outside of Willow.

Gertie and Miami, two of Sandy's leaders, rested up
before attempting the tough trail to Nome.

Although they didn't make it to Nome, they gave it a
good shot and you never know about next year...

We spent a weekend in Fairbanks taking in the Winter Carnival
and the North American Sled Dog Race, the oldest continuously run sled dog race.

And we stopped by to see the results of the World Championship of Ice Carving.

And Daisy and Logan kept us company and provided
plenty of entertainment on our many walks and skis through the woods.
