A
Busy Summer 2006

We spent a week on the road down in Southcentral Alaska near Seward in June.

The highlight of that week had to have been a three day stay at a public use
cabin right on the water along Resurection Bay.

JJ found a nice sunny spot to read and enjoy the solitude and marvelous weather.

The dogs were free to run and eat as many crab shells and seaweeds
as they could find, even they (and we) paid for it later with upset stomachs.

The view from the cabin was quite spectacular.

We had the beach essentially to ourselves as the high tide cut off
the beach access trail from anyone hiking by.

We then spent another quiet relaxing week daydreaming on our
property in Nova Scotia.

We explored the area and marveled some of the similarities between
Nova Scotia and Alaska.

We found out that we have direct trail access up to the network
of logging roads on the Cape Breton Highlands. Dog sledding???

New Glen Brook forms one border of our property.

Baddeck, the closest town to our property, is a picturesque little village
on the waters of Lake Bra 'do

We returned to Fairbanks with a new cabin and plenty of projects.

First up was a shed and coop so our chickens could join us from Two Rivers.

Finally, they made the trip to the Sundance Loop cabin.

Amidst all this JJ trained for the Equinox Marathon and the day dawned beautiful.

In Fairbanks military style, the starting gun for the race woke me up
easily, despite missing my coffee that morning.

Right out of the chute, the pack started up one of the many hills.

It was a beautiful day and the hills around Fairbanks provided a colorful
backdrop.

JJ finished in fine time, just a tad shy of her target time.

As the weather turned cooler we focused on some inside projects,
including hanging a few pictures or maps.

Daisy and Logan found their comfortable spots on some new furniture.

We installed a few more cabinets, a stove hood and new curtains on the counters.

We also replaced the cheap carpet with bamboo.

Our most recent efforts involved installing a composting toilet and
building the walls for the water(less) closet.
